We have been slowly gathering backpacking equipment (most recently new sleeping bags) and finally decided we had enough gear to take a trip!
We chose San Jacinto mountain for its convenience and lack of bears. Turns out, the possibility of a mountain lion isn't much better on my nerves. No major wildlife encountered, other than 63 sugar-buzzed 4th-graders in our tram car on the way up. Luckily we left them at the ranger station. 
Each step seemed to bring another cloud, and by the top I was wearing everything I brought. It was a fun trip, and a good excuse to eat Ramen!
